The

Princess Bride

The Princess Bride is a film close to my heart. It fostered a love of fantasy and storytelling that has led me on the path to where I am now. The original film was very low-budget and ambitious, my goal with the redesign is to bring to life the story on the level I believe it deserves. The writer cited in the script that the contemporary world we begin the story in is neutral and bland so when we enter the storybook world of Buttercup and Westley, it is bright and colourful. This is achieved with bright colours and colour blocking. The fashion most associated with fairy tales and fantasy stories is medieval or early Renaissance costume. This will be the period that influences the silhouette and garments. Heavy, rich fabrics are also used and layered together to give a tangible and textural appearance to the costumes. Excessive elements lend well to the fantasy aesthetic.
